High School Cook Off Challenge
The 2021 competition saw St Brendan-Shaw College verses Devonport High School last Friday. It was a close competition with both teams cooking a crispy skinned fish dish, with amazing attention to detail and outstanding presentation. In the end Devonport High School won the competition with perfectly seasoned tuna.
We think Sydney, Lily and Piper did a wonderful job (as pictured below) - well done girls!

Swimming Carnival:
Last week the College held the annual Inter-house College Swimming Carnival. This year the College decided to try something new and run a 7/8 Carnival and a 9-12 Carnival. This allowed students to spend more time doing novelty events and enjoying the pool and also allowed the staff to run 25m events in an effort to keep participation high and have all students participating.
The 25m races were a hit with the students who all received bonus points for their house simply by participating in those events. This was a massive success and over 500 extra points were earned across the board. This carnival also saw the surfboard relay brought back into the program which was a massive hit.
The competition was fantastic over the two days, with grade 7 students getting their first taste of what a College carnival looks likes and grade 12s participating in their final swimming carnival.
Although the weather was not favourable on Thursday, the 9-12 students did a fantastic job lead by the seniors to get in the pool and have a great day. Miss Sussman and Miss Doherty also did a great job with extended time in the aqua Zumba meant that they shook a tail feather for nearly a full hour.
This year our College Swimming Champions were:
Jamieson Towns
Matilda Spaulding
Lucy Aherne
Joss Littler
Hollie Tattersall
Baxter Tu
Amelia Burbury
Archie Wise
Sophie Grave
Je Joon Littler
Well done to everyone involved and a special thank you to all the staff who had to do two full days of the carnival including a very wet Thursday.

In association with CaSPA, SchoolTV is pleased to offer this important Special Report for your school community.
The recent allegations of sexual assault covered in the media, has sparked an online petition instigated by a former student from a private girl’s school in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. The petition asked for former students who had experienced sexual assault whilst still at school to come forward and share their stories. The petition has since gone viral with an enormous response from thousands of young women who have either signed the petition or shared their experience.
The accounts shared by these young women are disturbing, shocking, graphic and upsetting. It has set in motion a wake-up call for many schools to reassess their curriculum around sex and life education. The clear message arising from this is that education around consent is being delivered too late, with many young women being subjected to sexual assault before they reach Year 10. The petition is calling for change to help protect young people across the nation.
This also highlights a strong need for parents to step-up and start having conversations around consent. It is not enough to assume that your teenager knows or understands what it means and the implications surrounding it. Teenagers need to learn about boundaries, enabling them to respect themselves and their partners. Talking about consent regularly will help normalise it and encourage your teenager to experience healthy relationships as they journey into adulthood.
