Behaviour Management Processes
At the end of 2021, we undertook a review of our behaviour management processes at the college. The outcome was a more streamlined process, which I include here for parents' information. A copy of this flow chart appears in every classroom and common areas for students' information. The goal is to achieve consistency across the school and improve student behaviour and engagement. It has certainly made for a calmer start to the year.

Year 10 Vaccinations
Devonport Council has advised that due to the number of Year 7 student vaccinations on Tuesday 5 April, the Meningococcal vaccination for Year 10 students has moved to Tuesday 1 November.
Nuisance TikTok Accounts
Over the past fortnight, we have become aware of two different TikTok accounts that serve no positive purpose. The account breached both privacy and copyright acts; content included images of students without consent and use of the College logo and name. The best way students can respond is to report the offending account and completely ignore all posts. Students who comment on these accounts only serve to "feed the beast" by giving the creator the attention they seek. Students received the above message in their daily notices, and I would be grateful if parents could reiterate this message.
Covid Plan
Given that there have been no significant changes to our Covidsafe Plan, we as a leadership team have decided to continue our "core business" approach for the remainder of Term 1, with no large indoor gatherings.
The Importance of Our Seniors
I love being a high school teacher. We sign up for the period in a young person's life when they make mistakes, and what a varied and interesting experience it is for us as teachers. At a Year 7-12 school like ours, we also have the privilege of seeing them mature and become giving and delightful young adults.
This year, we can see how wonderfully our Year 11 cohort has adopted the expectations of Senior Secondary students. Multiple teachers have commented on the group as a whole and individual students. I commend each of them for the way they have made this transition.
This week I have witnessed two of our senior students acting as mentors to their younger peers. They provide guidance, a listening ear, and advice that is more palatable to the juniors than the advice from parents and teachers. Giving their time and understanding is a real gift. I am grateful for the presence of our seniors each day in Homeroom, on the playground, and on school buses.
Our Senior Secondary Ball on Saturday 14 May is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate this stage of their journey at St Brendan-Shaw College.
