Principal's Message 6 May 2021
Last week we welcomed Ms Kelly Lehman to the ARTS faculty on a temporary replacement contract as we go through a recruitment procedure to fill a vacancy. She was joined by Donna Raynor on Monday, joining the TAs in the Learning Enhancement Team. We also welcomed Ms Shea Steven back after a prolonged recovery period for an injury to her foot.
In June 2020 education ministers agreed that it was timely to review the Australian Curriculum, which has been in place since 2015.
Late last week the proposed revisions were made public for feedback to the Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) before final adjustments are made. Some media comment has occurred that misrepresents what the review has recommended and ACARA's CEO has released this statement in response to an incorrect report about the Civics and Citizenship curriculum by one media outlet, as well as other commentaries about the Australian Curriculum that are ill-informed.
ACARA has found that the Australian Curriculum "is consistent with some of the best curricula internationally and is well-regarded by teachers across the country; but that it needs refining, updating and ‘decluttering’ to better support teachers". More information about the Review can be found on this page of ACARA's website.
I am now in a position to publish the 2022 Term Dates. Term breaks coincide with Department of Education dates, and Year 11 and 12 end-of-year dates are dependent upon when TASC holds end-of-year written exams. Thus:
- Year 7, 11 & 12 students will commence on Friday 4 February 2022, with Year 8 to Year 10 students joining them on Monday 7 February 2022.
- Term 1 will conclude on Thursday 14 April 2022, the day before Good Friday, Term 2 will commence on Monday 2 May 2022.
- Term 2 will conclude on Thursday 7 July 2022.
- Term 3 will commence on Monday 25 July.
- Term 3 will conclude on Friday 30 September 2022.
- Term 4 will commence on Monday 17 October 2022.
- Year 11 and 12 end-of-year dates will be determined by when TASC Written exams take place, but we expect the following:
- Level 2 TASC classes will likely end on Thursday 3 November 2022 with the Year 12 final assembly occurring on Friday 4 November 2022.
- Swot Vac would then run from Tuesday 8 November 2022 to Friday 11 November 2022. (Note that Monday 7 November 2022 is a public holiday.)
- TASC Exams would occur in the two weeks commencing on Monday 14 November 2022. (Note that Friday 25 November 2022 is a public holiday, however, TASC tries to finish exams before the long weekend.)
- Year 12 Graduation Mass and valedictory dinner are likely to occur on Wednesday 30 November 2022.
- Year 10 students conclude on Friday 9 December 2022.
- Year 7 to Year 9 students conclude with a Picnic Day on 13 December 2022.
- There are likely to be three student-free days throughout the course of the year.
- Friday 8 July will be the all-staff professional and personal development day.
- Two others are yet to be confirmed, however, the majority of teachers are attending moderation meetings that are likely to be held on Tuesday 15 March and Friday 2 September 2022.
Public Holidays that fall during Term-time are:
- Monday 14 March 2022 - Eight Hours' Day.
- Monday 13 June 2022 - Queens Birthday.
- Monday 7 November 2022 - Northern Recreation Day.
- Friday 25 November 2022 - Devonport Show Holiday.
Note that Good Friday is on 15 April 2022 and Easter Sunday is on 17 April 2022.
I wish a special mothering prayer for all those mothers who we celebrate, especially, this Sunday:
Good and Gentle God,
We pray in gratitude for our mothers and for all women who have joined with you in the wonder of bringing forth new life.
You who became human through a woman, grant to all mothers the courage they need to face the uncertain future that life with children always brings
Give them the strength to live and to be loved in return, not perfectly, but humanly.
Give them the faithful support of family and friends as they care for the physical and spiritual growth of their children.
Give them joy and delight in their children to sustain them through the trials of motherhood.
Most of all, give them the knowledge that they can turn to you for help when they need it most.
May God bless you all and keep you safe and happy.
