With winter and school holidays coinciding with an increasing number of Covid infections in various states, it is important that we are vigilant about keeping each other safe. Should any of our College community members travel, or have contact with people who have travelled, interstate please check the latest Covid information in relation to testing and the like. Also, if a student is displaying any of the symptoms associated with Covid, please do not send them to school and have them undertake a screening test.
Mrs Robyn Arthur will be taking the remainder of this year on Long Service Leave, and we wish her a very well-earned rest. Her classes will miss her, but we are lucky to look forward to her return next year. Replacement plans unravelled when the teacher accepted a late appointment in her hometown in Launceston. While we have contingencies in place, we took the opportunity to re-advertise, seeking a simpler solution.
We also farewell Natalie Cornish as she completes her Replacement Contract for Gemma Ziesel who returns from maternity leave. Ms Cornish has been a positive presence in every regard and her quiet disposition and care for students and their achievements have been highly valued. She leaves us with our warmest wishes, and blessings for her life's journey to be as rewarding for her as it is for those who she encounters.
Interviews for the 2022 Year 7s are progressing well. I am trying to do as many as I can, however, we will need to run another full afternoon and evening of interviews on the first day of Term 3 (19 July). Mrs Turner, the Enrolments registrar, will be making contact during the Term Break to arrange appointments. With her trying to also schedule some interviews during the Term Break, it would be best to advise anyone who has not yet submitted an application to do so as soon as possible as places are limited. Applications are able to be completed online from our website. Alternatively, contact the College if you have any questions or need assistance. If you hear of parents who have not applied because they have assumed that costs would be unmanageable, encourage them to make contact as, often, they discover that it is quite achievable.
With NAIDOC Week clashing with the Term Break, we have postponed our celebrations until the beginning of Term 3.
I remind parents that this Friday (2 July) is a normal school day and is not a student free day.

We recently hosted Grade 6 students from our local feeder schools for taster days at the College. The days have been very successful and we have received some lovely feedback from some of the students from St Patricks Catholic School at Latrobe:
“I saw many faces that I recognised. The giant climbing thingy was one of my favourite bits of the school!”
“I did know a few people that went to the school. The teachers were really nice, they seemed kind and welcoming. I enjoyed going there!”
“I enjoyed science, most specifically chemistry. I loved checking how strong the acid was in stuff and mixing up liquids to make it fizz up.”
“The thing I enjoyed about SBSC was the kitchen because we can learn to cook and open new pathways for when you're older.”
“One thing I liked doing at St Brendan Shaw was the woodwork because we got to shape the wood to the right shape and we got to use the laser to write what we wanted on the car.”
“I really liked the woodwork because it was so much fun using the tools (drills, laser gun and sandpaper) to make cars. We also got to engrave our names into the car and it looked really cool.”
“In Science we took apart fake human parts and put them on a weight machine that measured how many milligrams the part weighed.”
“My favourite would have to have been MTD with Mr. Lane as it is something St Pats can’t offer for the students. I loved making our little wooden cars and using the different tools like the drill, drill press, sandpaper and a file.”
We will hold additional taster days for students from non-feeder schools next term.
We want to know how to improve student transport.
Please take five minutes to let us know what you think about how students get to and from school.
The review will also be looking at the attitudes families and students have towards bus transportation and reasons why they may or may not use bus transportation.
The survey closes Friday 2 July 2021.
