This week we celebrated the formation of a Z Club at the College with a Charter Installation Ceremony hosted in the College Library by the Zonta Club of Devonport.
Z Clubs help high school and college students develop leadership skills, promote career exploration and encourage members to participate in the community, school and international service projects. Z Clubs are sponsored by clubs of Zonta International, the worldwide service organisation of women in business and professions working together to improve the lives of women and girls in the world.
The objects of the SBSC Z Club are:
to serve St Brendan-Shaw College;
to serve the community;
to provide career guidance and encourage leadership qualities; and
to promote fellowship and better understanding among all people of the world.
Our Club currently has 18 very enthusiastic and motivated members with potential new members always welcome.
The 2022 SBSC Z Club office bearers are:
Presidents: Amelia Burbury and Ella Rann
Secretary: Melanie Garrad
Treasurer: Harriet Mendham
Congratulations to all involved!

Next week, Real Talk Australia will be in the College presenting to our Year 8 and 10 students. Who is Real Talk?
Real Talk is an organisation that gets REAL on the topics of sex, relationships and personal identity. Based on Catholic values, and using personal sharing from our team of presenters, we provide up-to-date resources, presentations and programs on these important topics. Real Talk’s ‘Love and Life’ Seminars / Reflection Days are an opportunity for young people to hear from specially trained outside presenters about these topics.
Our aim is to empower students to make healthy choices that show respect for themselves and others. Please be reassured our presentation focuses on topics that are relevant to this age group, with adjustments made for every presentation to remain consistent with the physical and emotional development of our audience. We use relevant language, discussion, videos, reflection, critical thinking activities and stories to inform, equip and empower students.

Last year the College had Real Talk present to a class of Year 8 Students via zoom on Getting Real in the Digital World, and with travel restrictions now lifted we have taken the opportunity to have them present in person. Real Talk presenters are spending the week in Tasmania and are endorsed presenters of Relationship and Sexuality Education in Tasmanian Catholic schools. We look forward to them presenting to our students.
Students can wear their full HPE Uniform for the day and need to bring a pen with them.
Dates: Y10 - Wednesday 22nd June - Love and Life - Y10
Y 8 - Thursday 23rd June - Love and Live - Y8
We have become aware of three students with severe cases of Influenza A, with, at least two having been hospitalised.
You can read more about symptoms & treatment here:
https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/influenza-a-flu
The best ways to restrict the spread are with the actions we are already taking at school: mask-wearing, and good hand hygiene.
Please keep this information in mind if your child develops severe symptoms.
If your child is symptomatic they should not attend school.
Year 7 student, Bryce Evans, thought outside of the box with a recent class project. Bryce turned his sliding lid box into a memorial box for a fallen Ukraine fighter jet pilot. A wonderful display of compassion and thoughtfulness by Bryce.
