This week we have had some wonderful visitors to the College ... our Year 6 Primary school students. I have heard that it has been a positive experience for them, with lots of excitement.
Later in the year, students from non-Catholic primary schools who have enrolled with us will get the same opportunity. I have had the opportunity to interview many of next year's new students and they are a lovely group. Places are limited, so I would encourage anyone who has not yet done so to submit their applications. Applications are able to be completed online via our website (www.sbsc.tas.edu.au) or by contact the Enrolments Registrar, Mrs Iola Turner at enrolments@sbsc.tas.edu.au or on 6424 7622.
We are also receiving increased enrolments into Year 8, and already some elective classes are nearing capacity.
The College has submitted an application to begin a significant upgrade of Shaw Block. If our application is successful, and I am feeling confident, construction could begin as early as December. It is an exciting project that is the first step in achieving a new strategic master plan for the College. The plan sets out development to place the College at the top, regionally, in delivering learning that our young people deserve. The vision is for the College to develop a series of 'hubs'. The first stage would see Upper Shaw Block updated as a Year 9/10 hub, with Shaw Lower (already home of the Sciences hub) to become a VET/Food Technology Hub, including new Kitchens and Hairdressing, allowing the existing space for Hairdressing to become incorporated into the Nazareth Centre PE hub.
Year 8 Reflection days are taking place this week, and Year 11 and 12 students are completing their mid-year exams.
Next week, our active SRC are planning to participate in "Shorts for the Shortest Day". To allow the seniors to not be distracted from their exams, this will take place on Friday, the closest we could get to the winter solstice.
Stay safe and happy and I will keep you in my prayers.

I am becoming increasingly concerned when I hear about what some of our students are up to on the weekend, especially in relation to alcohol consumption.
A significant number of students in Years 9 & 10 report they are drinking regularly, and often post images of themselves doing so on social media.
I attach for the information of parents a factsheet for parents on introducing your child to alcohol, written by known expert Paul Dillon.
I urge all parents, as the factsheet suggests, to delay as long as possible.
Examples of some great work from our Year 8 Design class who have been working hard with Mr Kirkwood.
We want to know how to improve student transport.
Please take five minutes to let us know what you think about how students get to and from school.
The review will also be looking at the attitudes families and students have towards bus transportation and reasons why they may or may not use bus transportation.
The survey closes Friday 2 July 2021.
At the time of publication there are only a few tickets left for the Thursday night and Saturday matinee sessions. Don't miss out!
