We are constantly working to improve our teaching practice and the educational outcomes for students. We use Educator Impact (EI) software package as a tool to help us collect and interpret feedback. It also provides us with a platform to set a goal to improve our teaching practice and provides some resources which relate to the goal. Following on from work in the first half of this year when every teacher in a Position of Leadership went through a performance feedback review using the EI for Leaders' module, we have moved into the next phase which is the feedback review for all teachers.
Each teacher completes a self-reflection and receives feedback from a peer who completes classroom observations, and from students. The EI Software is based on the following competencies which are mapped to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers:
The information from all three sources (self, peer, and students) is then analysed and compared to provide areas of strength and areas for goal setting, with the following 'circumflex' providing a visual presentation:
The process runs over two years. The first provides the data and concludes with the establishment of goals, and strategies to achieve them. The second sees these strategies put into place. The cycle begins again after the second year, with teachers able to see how their practice has changed.
We have been involved in this process for some time, now, and the growth and affirmation that teachers receive see them commit to the process with a positive mindset.
I commend them for their professionalism.
Stay safe, keep happy and I will keep you in my prayers.

Recently I had the pleasure of taking the St Brendan Shaw Catholic College Year 8 students retreat with a focus on Values and the acronym GATE (Gratitude, Appreciation, Thankfulness & Enthusiasm). The students and staff were fantastic to work with and it generated much discussion, reflection and hopefully even positive behavioural change both at school and at home.
At the end of the sessions, we sat in a circle and discussed what they would remember about the retreat experience. Here are some of what they said:
Love – some of you may have received a mobile call!
The need to ask for help – this can show courage.
Use my manners
Gratefulness
Values - kindness
Thankfulness
To be happy and successful
Don’t take things for granted
Be appreciative of Friends and family
Goal to help at home more
Don’t take small things for granted- Sometimes it is the little things that matter
Remember you’re not alone
Thankful to come here
The power of knowing what you want to do
Keep trying, even when it is hard- NGU – Never Give Up
Appreciate Tasmania and all it has to offer.
Don’t give up just because today sucks
Saying yes more often (when it is appropriate)
The experience for me as the presenter, was enlightening due to the way the students reflected and engaged. They have an amazing group of teachers seeking ways to ensure the students reach their potentials and at the same time we had a lot of fun – with a bit of magic thrown in.
Many thanks

We want to know how to improve student transport.
Please take five minutes to let us know what you think about how students get to and from school.
The review will also be looking at the attitudes families and students have towards bus transportation and reasons why they may or may not use bus transportation.
The survey closes Friday 2 July 2021.
