NAIDOC Week
I begin by acknowledging the Palawa People, the traditional custodians and caretakers of the land that St Brendan-Shaw College is built upon. We recognise that these lands were places of learning, inquiry and activity for hundreds of thousands of years. We are always mindful that under the concrete and buildings where we learn and play there is a deep and ancient history that belongs to traditional Country. We acknowledge the elders, past, present, and emerging and pay our respects to their deep connection with the spirit of the land on which we learn and play each day.
School Improvement Survey
As part of our ongoing commitment to continuously improving the school, we believe that it is critical to seek each parent and guardian's opinion on a range of issues. Your feedback is very important to us as we continue to build a successful school and strengthen our reputation as an educator of choice.
As such, we have engaged the professional services of MYPCorp to undertake a strictly private and confidential School Results Survey on our behalf. The survey should take approximately 10 - 15 minutes and will be available, online, from 25 July to 26 August. There are no right or wrong answers and we ask that you respond honestly to each statement.
Noone gets access to individual results other than MYPCorp who then provide us with a summary of collated results only. To ensure anonymity, parents and guardians will be emailed individual survey logins by MYPCorp. This will be sent on 25 July and the email will contain further instructions. If you don't receive your email, check your spam and junk email folders before contacting the College.
While we strongly encourage you to participate, the survey is not compulsory. If you decide that you do not wish to complete the survey, simply click "Unsubscribe" in the instruction or reminder emails.
(A copy of the above information will be sent to Individual parents and guardians via email on Monday 18 July 2022.)
Uniform Decision
I have been disappointed in the number of students who have been abusing the privilege to wear the PE uniform on days that they have PE. In particular, students have taken to not wearing the full PE uniform (substituting different track pants or hoodies) or wearing it when they do not have PE. I will give students the first two weeks to indicate that they recognise that the option is a privilege, and to wear the uniform correctly. If there is no improvement, we will revert to full academic uniform every day, with a requirement to change before PE lessons.
Catholic School Parents Australia's Children’s Wellbeing and Learning Survey - yes, another one.
Catholic School Parents Australia is seeking the help of parents and guardians to report to the government on the existing and emerging concerns of parents in relation to the wellbeing and learning of their children. To help inform them, CSPA is conducting a survey. The survey is scheduled to go live on 25 July and it will be accessed through a link on their ENGAGE website. To find out more check out this story on their website.
Take care, stay safe and I will keep you in my prayers,
Frank Pisano
A big thank you to Rob Parsons and his fiancee (and old scholar) Erin Hall for sharing their wilderness experiences of prospecting, pack rafting, and bushwalking expeditions with Mr Hubble’s Outdoor Education class today.
If you haven’t already done so, do yourself a favour and check out Rob’s Youtube page to view his many amazing adventures in Tasmania.

NAIDOC week this year is held from 3-10 July with the intent to encourage us all to 'Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!' with us to amplify our voices and narrow the gap between aspiration and reality. Our Year 7 students were lucky enough to have a visit from Aunty Dawn, Uncle Hank, and Linton while taking part in their Cultural Day.
On Tuesday 5 July, during recess, our Vinnies group conducted a silent sit-in as an act of solidarity for all refugees and asylum seekers and first nations people who are unable to speak up for themselves, through fear, persecution or suppression. Students and staff took part by optionally covering their mouths with tape and holding up signs.
Applications are now open! Zip back in time to the moment NYSFers entered the first week of the 2022 NYSF Year 12 Program!
