If you're following us on Facebook you will have seen some of the 'happenings' that involve our College.
The SRC's focus on mental health week, last week was well received, culminating in "Donut stress Friday". I commend their work in raising awareness and reducing stigma. The cross country culminating in the splashing of colour on willing participants has a nice connection to the joyful and colourful Hindu festival, Holi, which celebrates spring, love, and new life.
Srishti Namoa, Michael Hartree, and Will Jeeves have been active in the newly established Devonport Youth Advisory Council and I congratulate them for their civic-minded thinking.
And what an exciting time for Luka Mansell and Jet Spicer, who recently returned from an experience in Canberra, exploring careers in astronomy.
We are conscious of the pressure that energy and petrol price increases may be placing on some members of our community. If you are experiencing abnormal financial stress and are concerned about fees, do not hesitate to reach out to us to discuss how we can work with you to manage. Our Business Manager, Ms Debbie Clarke, is a confidential and empathetic person who is easy to connect to.
I want to thank those who are making tax-deductible donations to the College's Building Fund. These are kept in a separate account and can only be used for capital building projects. We are waiting for building costs to stabilise before beginning a major project, so we value your support which helps us progress our visionary master plan.
Stay happy and keep safe and I will keep us in my prayers,
Frank Pisano
Luka (Year 11) and Jet (Year 10) have recently returned from Canberra, where they spent a week at Mt Stromlo Observatory learning from two First Nations astronomers through the Australian National University program. Luka and Jet, along with other Year 10 and 11 students from remote NSW and Tasmania, were mentored by professional astronomers; students built smartphone devices to measure the chemical make-up of light and undertook remote observation at Siding Spring Observatory.
Students are reminded via the daily notices that hoodies are not an approved item to be worn over or under the uniform. There is a soft shell jacket available for purchase as part of the PE uniform, and the navy warm-up top may be worn under the PE top. Thermals could also be added as the underneath layer.
