Principal's Message 15 October 2020
As we begin the final term of a very different year to what we anticipated, it could be easy to fall into the trap of thinking that the work is done and that students can ease into the summer holidays. This would be a mistake. Students may not be as lucky as Black Cavier's Jockey, Luke Nolan, was at Ascot when he was chasing the horse’s 22nd win from 22 starts. Leading by a length in the final 100m, Nolan believed that his job was done and "shut down" a couple of strides from the winning post." History shows that this almost resulted in his first loss with the horse.
Now, I'm not a follower of horse racing, however, I will stick with the theme. I would rather students approached the last term with the mindset of Michelle Payne, the first female to ride a winner at the Melbourne Cup. Her perseverance (in the face of adversity and gender bias) was instrumental in her cementing a place in sporting history.
So, just as a rock climber looks at the next handhold rather than the peak, I encourage students to focus on their lessons where they need to remain engaged in their own learning rather than looking at the end of the school year. They can trust, however, that we are looking to provide opportunities for them to celebrate and be rewarded for their perseverance.
Stay safe and happy and I will keep you in my prayers,
Frank Pisano
