I returned to work after two weeks with family in NQ. As I walked back through the College to a staff briefing on Monday, my fresh eyes saw happy students and it made me reflect upon the importance of "seeing" the 'quality majority' that is before us.
I take this opportunity to thank Ms Walters for stepping into the Principal's role (while maintaining her teaching load), and Ms Keightley for stepping into the Deputy Principal: Pastoral Care role in addition to her existing responsibilities.
This week students in years 7 and 9 have been involved in Reflection days and personal development programs (for Year 9). We have also been conducting interviews for some internal Positions of Leadership roles.
Next week we will be providing the venue for COVID Vaccinations for our seniors, as well as those from some smaller schools in Devonport.
I am currently in Hobart for a series of meetings with Principals from Catholic schools and the Catholic Schools VET RTO who we use for many of our VET Courses, so my article is brief this week.
Stay safe, keep happy and I keep us all in my prayers,
Frank Pisano
What a squad!
This week, our chess team travelled to Somerset to compete in a tournament, which saw them come out on top, outstanding work! This is the first time our chess team has been in first place and are looking good for next month's State Chess Finals. Congratulations so far, team, and good luck to you all for the next tournament!
Last Friday, our College Athletics team headed to the NSATIS carnival at St Leonard's. All participants should be very proud of themselves for competing, especially in such windy conditions. A big thank you for the support from all staff.
St Brendan-Shaw College will be running Founders’ Day activities on Friday 24th of September (the last day of Term 3). The day will be a casual clothes day for all students, and the festivities will begin at 12 pm, after normal classes in the morning.
We are lucky to have external food vendors joining us for the afternoon, along with some exciting activities planned - including the mechanical bull, gladiators, an inflatable twin slide, zorb balls, picnic area and DJ, face painting, lucky dips, food eating competitions, and more. Activities will range in price from free to $2 per “visit”, and a list of the food available and prices is included below (students do have the option to bring their own food from home if they prefer).
There will be cash and eftpos options available, but please keep in mind that phones will still be prohibited.
The following food vans/options will be on site from 12-2:30 pm (canteen will run as normal for recess only):
On Friday 22 October, the SRC will be running a Trivia Night open to the public in support of Warrawee Women’s Shelter, an Ulverstone based service that provides a safe, secure environment for women and their children who are escaping violence, sexual abuse and homelessness. The shelter plans to use the funds raised to purchase linen packs for women moving from the shelter safely back into the community.
If anyone in our community would like to make a donation in support of this event, either a prize, a cash donation or a prize we can use on the night, we would be most grateful. Please contact the Caritas office if you are able to help.
The Taliban took control of the Afghanistan capital city, Kabul, on 15 August 2021. Since the takeover, women and girls have had their rights taken away.
From Monday 20 to Wednesday 22, the Vinnies group will be running a pop-up cafe stand in the Hairdressing reception rooms at the Nazareth centre during Recess, raising money for the people in Afghanistan. You will be able to use cash or a card to purchase. All proceeds will go to Mahboba’s Promise, an organisation helping the most vulnerable people in Afghanistan for over 25 years. The United Nations estimated 2.2 million Afghan refugees are already in neighbouring countries. While a further 3.5 million people were forced to flee their homes within Afghanistan's border, with numbers increasing daily. But in the words of the organisation, we fight for a brighter tomorrow.
If you would like to donate, scan the QR code on the flyer below or visit here.

Dear parents, educators, counsellors, carers, and others who work with young people. After 18 months of being unable to run our Resilient Kids Conference around the country due to Covid 19, we have been working hard behind the scenes to put together a wonderful conference for you all, despite the present travel, and attendance restrictions. We are thrilled to announce that for the very first time, we will be running our Resilient Kids Conference as an ONLINE EVENT on Saturday 23rd October 2021.
