We have held off publishing the Newsletter so that we could include some images from the STEM Conference we hosted today. I thank those students who volunteered to act as Ushers throughout the day. Also, our four MCs excelled in their roles. I've been to many conferences, and our students did well and better than most adults who have taken similar roles. I hope they enjoyed the responsibility and have gained confidence from the experience.
Before each flight, aeroplane stewards run through preflight safety instructions. Among them is the reminder that, if Oxygen masks are needed, to fit our own before assisting with children. This is a physical example of the importance of caring for the carer. Next Thursday is RUOK Day (although every day can be). The RUOK Website contains a range of resources that you might find helpful, but I was reminded of the preflight ritual by a checklist that they provide. It begins: "Before asking a colleague "RUOK?", ask yourself: Are you in a good headspace?" So, this year, ensure that you include yourself as one that you ask: "RUOK?" You can turn to many good people if your answer is not: "I'm Good!"
Be safe, keep happy, and I will keep us in my prayers.

The College Vinnies club is bringing back the Men's Bag drive this year! From 5-16 September, Homerooms collect donated items to create Men's Dignity Bags.

Your generosity to this cause is greatly appreciated.
Our two year 10 students, Mataya Riley-Sims and Mia Aylett practised their skills on the wood-turning machine during their Applied Tech lesson.
Lockdown Practice
During the next two weeks, we will hold a Lockdown practice drill with staff and students to test our response to a potential scenario. Staff will be talking to students about the College lockdown procedure, including what to do and examples of circumstances that would necessitate a lockdown (including extreme weather, dangerous animals, emergency events, and dangerous persons).
Talking about the lockdown and participating in a lockdown drill can be upsetting and stressful. Students are encouraged to speak with their Teachers or one of our counselling staff about any concerns they may have. Naturally, parents/carers are also encouraged to talk with their children about this topic.
We have plans to make this practice as least disruptive as possible.
Please do not hesitate to contact the College if you have any queries or concerns about this.
2023 SRC Executive Applications are now open. Miss Sussman visited classes this week with information regarding the role. The nomination form has now been emailed to Year 10 and 11 students - the closing date for this is Thursday 8th September.
If students have any further questions, please see Miss Sussman.
We look forward to meeting our student representatives for 2023.
Today, the College hosted the It Takes a Spark STEM Conference. Over 350 students from Primary and Secondary schools across the North and North West joined us to learn about STEM. There were many workshops students and teachers could attend; from mini-masterclasses to hands-on sessions, there was something for everyone.
