Welcome Back for Term 3
By Mr Stuart Ralph, Principal
Good afternoon Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back to Term 3, and we look forward to getting back to work focusing on teaching and learning.
On Monday, while for students a student-free day, our teachers joined the rest of Catholic Education on the North West Coast at the Science of Learning - Insight All System day. The bold goal for Catholic Education Tasmania is to become the most improved educational system in Australia. As I expressed to staff on Tuesday morning at our briefing, my goal is for St Brendan-Shaw College to become the most successful educational organisation on the North West Coast.
How we set about achieving this will not be through quick fixes but strategic well thought out plans that allow our College to continue to flourish in all aspects of student life. Our staff continue to develop their knowledge around how the human brain learns and then apply this scientific knowledge to their everyday practice. This is achieved through asking effective questions, checking for understanding and sequencing concepts based on cognitive load theory. We have a vision for a school of excellence in learning and teaching.
While the holidays presented a time for rest and rejuvenation, we had many wonderful things still happening in our College, most notably our Mt Hotham Ski Trip and our Pippin cast, who were onsite rehearsing in the first week of the holidays.
Firstly, thank you to Mr Gerry Peters, Mrs Marlii Forward, Mr Michael Allen, Mrs Susie Winkler and Mr Daman Peters for their leadership of the students and dedication to our Production. We look forward to seeing Pippin, which starts on Thursday 17 August. I also thank Mr Sam O’Keeffe, Mr Steve Ryan, Mrs Kiralee Page and Mrs Jo Hoare who accompanied 30, Years 11 and 12 students to Mt Hotham providing them with an enriching experience in which many memories will be recalled over the years.
I would like to congratulate our SRC Executive, who held an MND Big Freeze event on the last day of Term 2. Many staff and students took the plunge down our slide, including myself and, to the credit of our student population, over $2000 was raised, which is a fine achievement.
While we reported that Lucy Aherne had been selected for the National U/16 Basketball team – the Sapphires, we now have a world champion in our midst with the Australian team winning Gold. We are extremely proud of Lucy and this fine achievement.
I wish everyone a wonderful start to the Term, and would like to remind parents that subject selection for 2024 needs to be completed by this Friday 28 July.
Yours sincerely,
