We are very fortunate in Tasmania in relation to active COVID cases in the state. However, it is foolhardy to believe that our students are no longer impacted by the disruption. (Neither should we discount anxiety that some may feel about what is happening in Victoria.) Thus, the fear of underperformance that is not uncommon within year 11s when they complete mid-year exams may be amplified this year. They will perform much better in the end-of-year exams.
Over 50 of our students applied for early entry to UTAS via the School Recommendations Framework that the University instituted this year as a support mechanism. Offers are due to be released as early as the end of this week. Students are required to complete Year 12 as part of the framework. I would not be surprised if this Framework were to remain in place. I would take this as a positive outcome.
Next Tuesday, 4th August, we are holding Subject Selection Evening to help students pick elective subjects in years 8 to 12 next year. This will provide an opportunity to find out more about the subjects on offer for 2021, including Vocational Education & Training (VET). Parents (and students) have the chance to speak with subject teachers and Teaching and Learning Leaders.
As part of the COVID19 Safety Plan that we must follow, numbers need to be restricted and we need to have the names and contact details of attendees. To achieve this without delays as you arrive, you must register via the link, below. (When a session reaches capacity, no more parents can register for it so get in early.) We have four sessions running over the course of the evening, as well as a presentation on attaining the TCE and ATARs for 2021 Year 11s that will be repeated for convenience. (2021 Yr 12 parents can also register if they wish.) The sessions are as follows:
Current Years 7, 8 & 9 - for Year 8, 9 & 10 2021 choices
Information on the TCE & ATARs
Current Years 10 & 11 - for Year 11 & 12 2021 choices
We will also have information available on School-based Traineeships and Apprenticeships, as well as UTAS courses.
To assist in meeting our COVID Safety Plan requirements, please do not bring siblings of students if you have an alternative. The link to register is here, or you can type the following URL into the address line of a browser: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/114843893176/
I am enjoying being back in the classroom, especially with the two great groups of students that I have.
I remember to keep our College community in my prayers.

The Vinnies Virtual Sleep Out is Coming on August 7th.
This year due to COVID19 we will be running a Virtual School Sleep Out. Students are invited to take part in the Sleep Out at home either on their bedroom floor or in their backyard.
From 6:00pm on the night of August 7th there will be live stream on the Facebook page ‘Vinnies Youth Tas’. There will be engaging guest speakers and video clips that will demonstrate the state of homelessness across Tasmania.
Participants can register at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/668F9W3. On registration, students will receive an information kit, Participant Pack and will receive a completion certificate after the event. Students under the age of 18 require parental permission to participate.
Will you take up the challenge and sleep rough for one night?
Senior Secondary Ball - Saturday 8th August 2020
Commences at 6:30pm, arrivals from 5:30pm (register at the below link).
Devonport Country Club, Spreyton.
Important information
Arrivals will be staggered in 15 minute blocks - you must register your arrival time, this helps us keep groups down to a minimum. Unfortunately this year parents and friends will not be able to attend the event to watch arrivals. They will be able to view arrivals via a basic Facebook live feed on the night. It will be a sit down meal, and any dietary requirements requests can be made at the time of registering. There is no cost to students to attend.
Dance rehearsals will be held closer to the date. We look forward to seeing you there!

As lockdown came to an end, it has been vital to share in fun experiences together. In Dance, we have been studying the changes in social trends and dance fads through the eras of the twentieth century. We have reminded ourselves that one of the most important functions of dance is to be a way to socialise and build community.
Students have been choreographing and videoing dance snippets to represent the eras, and have produced short dance films as a final product. Thanks to Miss Nguyen for helping some of our groups with their video editing!
