Students are to wear full academic winter uniform. Assembly begins at 6:30pm.
Our Year 11 and 12 students commenced their TASC written exams this week. We welcomed quality TASC-employed staff who are well-known and highly regarded to conduct the exam process following TASC's mandated requirements.
We welcomed Stuart Ralph to the College on Tuesday, and he spent the day with us as part of an informal "induction" to the community. Stuart stayed on to join in the Board meeting that evening as the Board reviewed the College's 2023 Budget before ratifying it and supporting its submission to the Resource and Sustainability Standing Committee for approval. Stuart will try to join us for one day per week for the remainder of the year. He has already committed to participating in the Validation Process on 23 and 24 November and will participate in the "Insight into Learning" (see below) professional learning program that we will host on 29 November through to 1 December. I thank St Patrick's College for supporting us in the transition to Stuart's leadership of our College.
SBSC has been asked to host Dr Lorraine Hammond, Associate Professor in the School of Education at Edith Cowan University as part of CET's Insight into Learning Project. The College joins six other Catholic secondary Colleges in Tasmania that will participate in the project which is targeted at implementing high-impact teacher instructional strategies, and Dr Hammond has long experience in working and researching in this area. Over three days, Dr Hammand will provide professional learning for key leaders at SBSC, as well as two invitees from each of the other six Colleges. Then, she and 2 to 4 of her colleagues will demonstrate practices across years 7, 8, 9 and 10 across the Maths, English, Science and HASS learning areas. As the host College, we will have much more staff exposed to the model lessons. These exciting innovations will lead to more engaged students and better learning.
The College will commemorate Remembrance Day on Friday 11/11 but will occur at 12:30 pm and not at the traditional 11:00 am time due to TASC exams.
Following the success of our Devonport Aero Club Junior Flyers Program, the Devonport Aero Club is conducting another basic course during the upcoming School Holidays. The program is targeting 14 to 18-year-olds. See the flyer in this publication for more information.
On Thursday 17th November, all year 7 students will be participating in Jump Rope for Heart. Students have begun preparations for this event in PE, working on their jumping skills.
Students and parents have all been emailed a link to register for the event and help raise valuable funds for the heart foundation.
It would be greatly appreciated if all year 7 students could be registered for the event on the 17th of November.

Never in our high school lives did we expect to spend our afternoon solving a murder. On Tuesday this week, our HyperScience and Advanced Science classes collaborated in an interactive workshop to investigate a case and learn about forensic science. During our session, we learned many things, including toxicology, evidence examination, entomology, and footprint comparisons. The case we studied was very relevant as the ‘victim’ was a high school student. It touched on digital footprints and how they are used to solve crimes. We want to thank Millie Tarca, and Education Interactive, for our fun and mysterious afternoon.
