Over the term break, I accepted the resignation of one of our social workers, Ms Monica Corbett, who began a new full-time position that suits her personal circumstances. I want to thank her for the last three years where she has provided high-level support in helping students, especially when it has come to connecting them to external agencies that are equipped to provide specialist support. I am in consultation with the Tasmanian Catholic Education Office in relation to using this as an opportunity to explore different models of support and utilising the expertise of larger external agencies in, perhaps, a hybrid model. With our Year 11s and 12s having just three weeks until exams begin, followed by the year 10s soon after, we will be able to manage our caseload with our existing resources.
The term has begun well and students have settled quickly into the routine of school life. For our seniors, it is a short term and for our year 12s, it is their last.
Year 11 and 12 TASC exams are scheduled to start on the week beginning Monday 8 November with the last exams scheduled to finish by Thursday 18 November. Year 12 parents will receive information about the end-of-year rites-of-passage events for the Year 12s under separate communication, however, the last day of formal classes for Year 11 and 12 students will be Thursday 28 October. We will have a ritual for Year 12 students and their parents that evening, and once again we have been able to secure a relatively recent past scholar to give an address. The following day the Year 12s will have their final assembly in front of the whole school. This is the model that we used last year and found that it was quite special - especially the evening ritual. The assembly the following day will be live-streamed.
The following week (Swot Vac) will see those seniors with external exams be able to access their teachers as per the normal timetable, with teachers and students able to negotiate how they use this time. Students can also use our facilities to study as suits them, with the only expectation that they sign in and out at Caritas so that we can account for them in the case of an emergency evacuation.
The Graduation Mass is scheduled for Wednesday evening, 24 November, followed by their Valedictory Dinner.
The Students Representative Council have achieved their goals for 2021. They wanted to use their position to promote awareness of important topics, and to provide opportunities for fun. The two weeks that they devoted to Mental Health were well received by the College, staff and students alike, and Founder's Day was a wonderful way to end last term. There was a relaxed and cooperative attitude that allowed everyone to enjoy the afternoon. Their 'last hurrah' is the Trivia Night scheduled for next Friday (22 October). Make up a table, brush up on unimportant knowledge, and be sure to enjoy a night with friends and families.
At this time of year, as we draw to the end of another graduating class's time with us, I become quite nostalgic and filled with emotions. Christianity is often described as the religion of Love. (Certainly, Jesus reminded us often of the importance of loving one another, and ourselves. My hope is that, as they leave us to make their own way in the world, that they recognise we have acted out of love for them as they have journeyed from Year 7s with so much yet to learn, to Year 12s where they have taught us so much.
Stay safe and happy and I will keep us all in my prayers,
Frank Pisano
Earlier this week, our Year-10 Auto students experienced tours throughout several manufacturing employers in the Burnie region.
Students were able to see and experience first-hand how various industrial processes work. They also learned about Lean Manufacturing and its implementation within the workplace.
The tours were an excellent opportunity for students interested in careers within the automotive, metal trades, or engineering industries.
We are very appreciative of the businesses and Vanessa Skipworth from TMEC, who facilitated the tour.

UPDATE OF TERMS AND CONDITIONS
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing the best possible educational experience, we have continued to monitor and revise the Terms and Conditions which apply in all Catholic Education Commission Tasmania schools. We will therefore be introducing a small number of updates to the Terms and Conditions, which will apply to all current enrolments continued in 2021 as well as to new enrolments from 2022.
A full copy of the Terms and Conditions is at the end of this page, which you should read carefully. Some changes made to the Terms and Conditions to note are as follows:
The inclusion of a definition of Humanitarian Entrant;
Reference to “Healthcare Card” has been changed “Concession Card” to reflect the Fee Assistance Policy;
The inclusion of an additional paragraph addressing the disclosure of information to Seesaw and Services Australia; and
New questions to capture information regarding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander status of parents/guardians.
By continuing your child’s enrolment in 2022 from Monday 17 January 2022, you will be taken to have accepted these updates to the Terms and Conditions.
If you have any concerns about the updates, please contact the school office on 6424 7622 or by email to admin@sbsc.tas.edu.au before 5 November 2021. We would be happy to discuss the incoming changes with you further.

Dear parents, educators, counsellors, carers, and others who work with young people.
