TASC exams have concluded and I want to thank all who joined me in praying for our seniors during the exam period. As always, exams present unexpected situations that we need to negotiate - and in every way, we work as strong advocates for our students.
This week also saw the panel of examiners for Art Production and Art Studio Practice visit to assess our students' portfolio of works. After this, selected pieces of work are chosen to be exhibited as part of the ArtRage exhibition.
ArtRage is an annual initiative of the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG) that exhibits the top works from young Tasmanian artists in years 11 & 12 studying Art Production or Art Studio Practice as part of their Tasmanian Certificate of Education.
The artworks are selected by QVMAG from works shortlisted by the art teachers of the various Colleges. The works exhibited reflect the originality of the individual students and the creativity that is encouraged by these schools.
This year we had works chosen from three of our seniors: Sophie Cox, Chloe Hollingsworth, and Anneka Wells. To have so many chosen from such a small cohort is evidence of their commitment to their work, and the inspiration and support they receive from their art teacher, Ms Jo Hoare. Congratulations are well deserved.
This rounded off a week where, once again, the College has achieved at exemplary levels. Earlier in the week, we were advised that, of 204 schools who competed nationally, St Brendan-Shaw College's Cows Create Careers advertisement won with a staggering 38% of the total vote. Again, the support that students receive from their teachers, in this case, Ms Elizabeth Temple, has seen them achieve at excellent levels.
Next week ends with a long weekend for the Devonport region, but prior to that, we have our final farewell for the graduating class of 2021. This commences with their Graduation Mass, followed by the Valedictory Dinner.
As always I pray that we stay safe and keep happy.

The nation has spoken! Our Ag-Science students have won this year's Cows Create Careers video competition hosted by MaxCare.
SBSC competed against 204 schools across Australia and over 11,000 students! Their white lab coats and cheerful cow masks along with their understanding of career options within the industry helped to gain 38% of the votes and come away with the $1,000 cash prize!
A huge congratulations to Tiki Lee, Jasmine Wilden, Emily Doran, Madeleine Simpson, and Madeline Brown for their win. And of course, to their teacher, Miss Elizabeth Temple for inspiring the students throughout the year!

NBL team, Perth Wildcats, visited the College on Thursday afternoon. The team spent some time with year 7 and 8 students, playing a series of three-minute games focusing on shooting and dribbling. The students had the chance to head around collecting signatures and having their photos taken with the players.
Thanks to the Perth Wildcats team for their time, and good luck in your upcoming game against Tasmania JackJumpers (Go JackJumpers!).
On Wednesday, Students participated in Jump Rope for Heart. Students skipped while raising funds for heart research, patient support and programs that help save lives.
The Year 12 Graduation Mass and Valedictory Dinner is on Wednesday, 24 November. Students should have received their invitation to the Dinner and a letter outlining expectations for the Mass. Attendees are asked to arrive at 5:40 pm for a prompt start time of 6 pm for Mass. Students should be dressed in neat dinnerwear while also wearing their College scarves.
