There are just five more days of formal classes for Year 11 and 12 students this year. The last day of formal classes is next Thursday, 30 October 2020.
In order to accommodate the final rites-of-passage for our graduands within the COVID19 parameters that we must operate, we have consulted with students for their preferences.
Thus, next Thursday evening they year 12s will have a farewell in front of parents who will need to register by using an Eventbrite invitation that will be sent to them. The evening will also incorporate the presentation of the Year 12 Awards that would normally occur at the Presentation evening (that will also be limited due to number restrictions at indoor events).
Friday will see the Year 12s farewelled in the usual manner, however, the final assembly will be closed to everyone other than students, and we are looking to live-stream the assembly for parents, the extended family, and friends.
The following week is SWOT VAC, with the teachers of TASC Level 3 Courses making themselves available for the usual timetabled lessons and locations.
Exams, begin the following week (9 November) and continue over the following fortnight.
Year 11 and 12 parents have been sent relevant information, including information from TASC in relation to the external exams. This information is also available from the TASC website at this link. There have been recent alterations to the Exam Timetable. Mrs Windsor is communicating this information as she receives it.
The Year 12 Graduation Mass and Valedictory Dinner will take place on Wednesday 25 November, again requiring families to register via Eventbrite.
This is also the time of year when we hold a Memorial Mass for those students who have died while enrolled at the College. Weather permitting, we are hoping to hold this outside on Tuesday 3 November. Again, registration via Eventbrite will be necessary. If you have not received an invitation by mid next week, and you are family of one of the students that we honour, please contact me at the College, via my Executive Assistant, Mrs Iola Turner.
On Tuesday Evening the Catholic Education Commission, Tasmania held an awards ceremony to recognise exemplary contributions to Catholic Education. This year our Deputy Principal: Teaching and Learning, Mr Hicks, was acknowledged for his excellent service to Catholic Education for over 25 years, a well deserved accolade.
Visitors to Caritas Reception will be able to view the new uniforms that will be phased in from Term 2 next year (due to supply not being available until that time). The changes are as follows:
Year 7 to 10. From Term 2, 2021:
Year 7 to 10 girls will be able to purchase a new 'winter' skirt.
Year 7 to 10 boys and girls have a new plain navy tie.
Year 7 to 10 shirts will have a long-sleeved winter model with a discrete 'SBSC' monogram on the pocket top seam, with a similar short-sleeved summer shirt. Both remain blue, but the girls' shirts will be tailored for a female fit.
Year 7 to 10. From Term 4, 2021:
A new summer uniform will be available for girls. More information about this will come next year.
There are no changes to the Year 11 and 12 uniforms, other than the white shirts will be available in both a long-sleeved winter model with a discrete 'SBSC' monogram on the pocket top seam, with a similar short-sleeved summer shirt. Again, the girls' shirts will be tailored for a female fit.
Stay safe and happy and I will keep you in my prayers.

On Thursday the 15th of October SBSC students had the opportunity to participate in a TMAG virtual tour and interactive presentation given by Tiangi from the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery.
SS Religion in Society students have explored the key aspects and expressions of Aboriginal spirituality's beliefs and practices as well as their relationship with the land. Through this curriculum, students have also investigated the impact of the European Settlement on the beliefs and cultural practices of Australia's First Nations people.
This virtual tour provided students with the opportunity to pose questions and clarify their understanding/learning.
