This week sees the end of formal classes for Year 11 and 12 students this Thursday. Students will have received formal notice of internal ratings from their teachers. Formal farewell rituals for the Year 12s occur on Thursday evening for them and their families and on Friday for the student body as a whole. Year 11 students may attend on Friday wearing their academic uniform and must be seated with their Homerooms no later than 11:50 am. They must sign in and out at the Caritas reception.
Next week, on Wednesday 3 November at 3:30 pm we will be holding our annual Memorial Mass for the souls of those students who died while enrolled at the College. This is open to anyone who wishes to attend, but please let us know if you are joining us to ensure that we can comply with Covid social distancing requirements. On arrival, please go directly to Jubilee Chapel (via the external pathway). There will be a capability to sign in at the Chapel.
I'm looking forward to 2022 when, hopefully, we can return to some semblance of ordinary and Covid requirements will not impose the restrictions on us that we've complied with over the last (nearly) 20 months. I am encouraged by the vaccination rates that see Tasmania well on the way to achieving 90% double vaccinations with the benefits that this has for keeping us well and minimising the burden on a medical system that has long been under strain. The Department of Health has provided a list of locations that are providing vaccinations in our region and you can find it in this publication.
Many people don't recognise that Halloween has a link to the Christian Feast days of All Saints and All Souls. The three days occur consecutively on October 31, November 1 and November 2, respectively. "Halloween" means "All Hallows Eve" and All Saints Day is also known as "All Hallows Day", (where "Hallow" means "Saint"). On All Saints Day, we celebrate all those who are in Heaven whom we know of. All Souls Day celebrates those who are saints, ie they are in Heaven, but this has not been made known. This allows me, for example, to pray to those loved ones of mine who have died and whom I know are in Heaven ... and I call on them to hear my prayers as much as I do St Mary MacKillop or St Anthony (my family's favourite saints). Thus Halloween sees costumes representing lost souls who have not lived a life that would see them be saints.
We recently welcomed a new admin staff member to the Caritas office. Next time you are in the office, please say hello to Rebecca (Bec) Fraser.
Stay safe, keep happy and I will keep us in my prayers (to some very special saints).

The College's Senior students recently had the opportunity to be vaccinated against COVID-19 by an onsite clinic. Students aged 12 and above are now eligible for the vaccine from either their GP, or participating pharmacy. Vaccinations are the best way to protect yourself, your family and friends, and your school against COVID-19.
